A Twitter-Based Analysis of the Perception of Covid-19 in North America

Motivation

Covid-19 has become one of the greatest threats to human beings in terms of health, society, and economy. Up to this moment, there have been little to no signs of remission. During this period, social media platforms like Twitter have played an important role in spreading information about the pandemic across the world. Moreover, the use of social media as a way for people to express their opinions and feelings on different topics has progressively expanded. As a result, analyzing covid-related tweets can provide significant insights in understanding the views and opinions of people in our society regarding the pandemic and favourism for the vaccination.

This work concentrates on extracting categories and sentiments related to COVID-19 on Twitter and analyzing this data to provide insights about the public perception of the pandemic and other pandemic-related topics such as vaccination.
